Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the things parents ask most often.

About the curriculum

What age is the curriculum for?

The curriculum is designed for early elementary readers, typically ages 5–10, who are struggling with decoding, reading, or spelling. Older learners who haven't received structured literacy instruction also benefit.

Do I need a dyslexia diagnosis to start?

No. The curriculum supports any child who is struggling to learn to read. Structured Literacy works for children with and without a formal diagnosis.

What is the Orton-Gillingham approach?

It's a structured, sequential, multisensory method for teaching reading. It engages sight, hearing, touch, and movement — which is especially effective for children with dyslexia.

How long is the program?

Level One is structured as a 12-week course delivered in 3 monthly workbooks of 4 lessons each. Most families work through one lesson per week, with daily practice in between.

Getting started

Do I need to be a teacher to use this?

Not at all. The teacher guides are written in plain language with step-by-step instructions. Parents tell us this is one of the things they love most.

What do I need to begin?

Just the workbook, the teacher guide, and a quiet 15–20 minutes a day with your child. Printable materials and decodable stories help extend the practice.

Can I use this alongside school or therapy?

Yes. Many of our families use the curriculum to reinforce or fill gaps left by school instruction or to supplement a structured literacy tutor.
